Traditional approach to all surgery is by open technique

In recent days popularity of minimally invasive surgery, made this approach less preferable by patients as well as surgeons.

How ever open surgical technique is always basic of all other approach. Surgeon should master of open technique before embarking upon other minimally invasive technique.

Still there are many indications of open abdominal approach for surgeries.

Previous history of surgery by open technique 3 -4 times.

Patient is unfit from aesthesia point of view for laparoscopic or robotic surgery

Patient requires multi organ surgery with blood vessels reconstruction

Patient abdomen precludes entry of laparoscope
